5 Ways To A Better Night Time Routine

5 ways to a better night time routine. Night time routines are just as important as morning routines. By following a specific bedtime routine, you may well find that you get to sleep faster and wake up better rested.  Here’s some of our favourite ways to wind down before bed:

1.Wind down:

Most of us don’t think about what we do before bed, we just go to bed when we’re tired or at ‘bed time’, but in truth ‘going to bed’ should start well before we’re tired.

Winding down with a warm bath infused with relaxing botanicals, like our Sweet Dreams Bath Salts & Body Wash can help your body to feel super relaxed and enable you to clear your mind. The gentle warming glow from a scented candle completes the feeling of total relaxation. All our candles not only smell amazing, but they’re sustainable, vegan and cruelty free and all of their packaging can be recycled.

2. Reflect on your day:

A clear mind is a happy mind! Try thinking about your day & write down everything that went well so you can look back and plan for the next day. This can help us to be organised and alleviate the stress of rushing around the next morning! Our 6 month undated wellness journal is designed to help you reflect on your day in a positive way, to write down anything that’s troubling you and give your mind some closure, enabling you to drift into a peaceful sleep.

3. Wear a sleep mask:

Needing darkness to sleep well is actually evolutionary. Humans are naturally diurnal, which means we should be awake by day and asleep at night. For thousands of years and long before lighting appeared on the scene, humans naturally slept while it was dark. Our brains associate darkness with sleep, producing more melatonin (the hormone that controls our sleep and wake cycles) when they sense an absence of light.

Scientists have also linked dark sleeping conditions to more REM sleep and less wakefulness which means you’re more likely to sleep more deeply without waking through the night.

4. Use a room or pillow spray:

Using a natural room or pillow spray can provide an aromatherapy benefit which is calming and can prepare the body and mind for rest and relaxation.

Pillow sprays are misted directly onto your pillow and once dry you can rest your head and breathe in the relaxing aroma.

Our Sleepy Head Room & Pillow Spray is made with essential oils to prepare the body & mind for a blissful, natural night’s sleep, but can also be used for deep relaxation and meditation.

A blend of calming lavender, soothing chamomile and frankincense create a powerful combination to help you de-stress and unwind.  It’s also made using natural, organic, plant derived ingredients and contains no parabens, synthetic colours or fragrances, mineral oils or SLS’s. Plus it’s vegan & cruelty free.

5. Have some bedtime rules:

Your parents probably had bedtime rules for you. In your bedtime routine as an adult, you need rules for yourself. Here are some rules that could help you prepare for a good night’s sleep:

  • No social media after 9 pm
  • No bright screens after 10 pm
  • Don't go to bed full
  • Clear your mind by reflecting on your day in a positive way
  • Be organised for the next day
  • Enjoy a relaxing warm bath
  • Meditate for 10 minutes
  • Play some relaxing music
  • Make sure you’re in bed before midnight
